(I was thinking that we could make an exception here and include a play, seeing as we have an actual piece of fiction written at the time, which deals with the theme. "The Birds" is also hilariously funny and a short read. Or maybe Lysistrate which is more directly about the war.)

Non-fictional reading could include Thucydides "History of the Peloponnesian War" at Gutenberg or at Project Perseus.
